Running is much more fun with music. Our app has a couple of different options for including music in your run. Choose your music settings by tapping the music button on any workout screen.
ZR Player
Google has made it harder for us to implement the ZR Player on Android. Specifically, they have officially deprecated the Android Playlist functionality we relied upon. This change to playlist functionality means that the implementation of ZR Player has changed significantly since we released ZRX. It's less convenient to use ZR Player in ZRX and requires some set up. Here's some guidance on how to use ZR Player in ZRX:
- To create a playlist you'll need to need to create a text file on a desktop computer or laptop. On a Mac you can use TextEdit and on PC you can use Notepad. You'll need to create a plain text file that lists all of the songs you want in your playlist. The file should also start with the text #EXTM3U and list all the songs in your playlist on new lines with the file names of the songs exactly correct as per the file. See an example below. Once you've created the file it should be a .txt file e.g. MyNewPlaylist.txt
#EXTM3U
The Beatles - Don’t Let me Down.mp3
The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black.mp3 - After you've created the file you'll need to change the file type to .m3u. You can do this by renaming the file and deleting .txt from the end of the file and adding .m3u. You may be prompted to check if this is correct before saving the file. If you are, allow it to be saved as a .m3u file. It should now be MyNewPlaylist.m3u.
- When you've saved your .m3u playlist you can send it to your phone. You can do this by emailing the file to yourself or using bluetooth if that option is available. Once the file is on your phone go to your device's Files app and move the playlist to your Music folder in the internal storage. Your Music folder should contain all of the songs in the playlist file and the playlist itself. Note: the file names of the songs in the playlist should match those in the Music folder exactly.
- After following these steps you should be able to use ZR Player to choose your playlist in ZRX by going to the Music settings before you start your run and selecting ZR Player. Tap 'Playlist' and use the Music folder on your phone as the folder you want to use for ZR Player, then you'll see a list of your available playlists to choose from in a pop-up. Choose the one you want to use and you'll be ready to go.
Streaming / External Music
To use an external or streaming music player such as YouTube Music or Spotify, select the External Player option on the music settings screen. Start playing your music in the external app before starting your workout, and our app will pause or lower the volume of the music in order to play story clips and announcements.
