If you are having trouble with frequent crashes, workouts ending early, or GPS in ZRX on a Samsung device, this may be due to Samsung's battery optimisation settings.
These settings can vary between phone models and versions of the Android OS, and because of this we cannot provide comprehensive instructions for every device.
The steps below cover the basics, but if you find yourself still struggling after trying them, we recommend checking out Don't Kill My App which should have the latest information.
- Go to Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the 3-dot menu in the right corner
- Tap Special Access
- Tap Optimise Battery Usage
- Select All Apps at the top left corner
- Turn off Battery Optimisation for ZRX!
- Go to Device Maintenance
- Tap Battery
- Deselect ZRX to allow it to use battery while it is not the active app
We have had reports that even removing ZRX (or other apps) from optimisation settings does not always allow it to function correctly, due to Samsung's aggressive battery optimisation functions. If following these steps does not work, we would recommend turning off power saving mode entirely. To do this:
- Go to Settings
- Open Device Maintenance
- Tap Battery
- Tap Power Saving Mode and switch it off
If you are using a Galaxy S8, then please do the following:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Device Maintenance
- Tap Battery
- Scroll down to Unmonitored Apps
- Tap the 3-dot menu
- Add ZRX to the list of unmonitored apps
- Alternatively, switch off App Power Monitor altogether
Please also make sure that you do not have Edge Lighting enabled for ZRX
If you are using a Galaxy S9/S10 then please do the following:
- Start Device care from phone settings
- Tap Battery
- Tap the 3-dot menu and go to Settings
- Disable all toggles (except Notifications)
- Tap Sleeping apps
- Wake up all the apps using the trashcan icon
- Make sure that Put unused apps to sleep and Auto-disable unused apps is disabled. Otherwise Samsung will put your apps back to sleep after a few days (3 by default) even if you have woken them up manually!
