What Kind of App is 7-Minute Motion-Tracking Workout?
7-Minute Motion-Tracking Workout takes its inspiration from the 7-Minute Workout research, incorporating this into a set of motion tracked workouts using your device’s front-facing camera to track your reps and calories.
What are the System Requirements for Motion Workout?
Motion Workout requires iOS 8 or above.
Will there be an Android version?
We don’t currently have any plans to bring Motion Workout to Android.
Why aren’t my reps being tracked properly?
If your reps aren’t being tracked correctly then you may need to either change the position of your device, or step further back from it.
We recommend standing at least 1.5 to 2 metres (5 to 6 feet) away from your device, and ensuring that there is no movement behind you. Any movements other than yourself will also be detected by the camera and will cause problems with accurate tracking.
Different exercises require your device to be in different positions. For example, for jumping jacks it’s best to prop the device up on a table, but for push-ups your device can be moved to the floor, ideally directly beneath your head. It’s worth experimenting with different positioning to see what tracks most accurately for you.
How do I share my workouts to Facebook or Twitter?
It’s not currently possible to share your workouts to social media.
Can I play music during my workout?
You can play music at the same time as workouts in Motion Workout, however you will need to start up your playlist outside of the app, and then start up a workout. Your device will then pause and duck the audio as appropriate when Motion Workout gives instructions.
Why are workouts split into 7 minute sets?
Because the original ‘7 minute workout’ research paper recommends that you should do 2 - 3 cycles of activity lasting 7 minutes. These short cycles of cardio and body weight-based resistance training offer maximum results in a short space of time - so long as you put a reasonable amount of effort in!
How does the calorie calculation work?
You can enter your weight in the app’s Settings menu - this will let us more accurately calculate the calories you’re burning during workouts.
Calorie calculation in Motion Workout is based on MET-hour equivalents (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) for exercises; and is related to the amount of time you spend on a specific activity. This way of calculating calorie burn assumes that you are putting out a reasonable amount of effort while exercising. Because of this you may find that the calorie count will be different if you compare this to other apps. We are always looking to improve calorie calculation though and it may change in future.
How do I turn on Airplay mirroring?
To use Airplay you’ll need to make sure you have Apple devices which support this feature. More general information about using Airplay please go to Apple’s support page here: Use Airplay to wirelessly stream content
To use Motion Workout with Airplay you’ll need to swipe up from bottom of the screen on your portable iOS device. Then just tap Airplay, select your screen, and turn on Mirroring to see the app on a big screen!
